How to Play Adult Baseball in Montana

If you’re an adult in Montana who wants to play real baseball again — not softball — you can. The Flathead Adult Men’s Baseball League (FAMBL) in Whitefish is Western Montana’s only adult men’s hardball league, open to players 18 and up of every skill level. Registration for the 2027 season opens this winter, and all you really need to play is a glove. Here’s exactly how it works.

Is there really adult baseball in Montana?

Yes. Organized adult baseball is rare in the state — the nearest leagues are in Spokane and Bozeman — which is why FAMBL was founded in 2025 to give players in Kalispell, Whitefish, Columbia Falls, Missoula, and across the Flathead Valley a real place to keep playing. The league is affiliated with the national MSBL/MABL, so members can also play in 8+ regional and national tournaments each year.

Who can play?

Anyone 18 or older. Rosters run from college-age players to guys in their 70s.
Every skill level. Former high-school and college players, weekend warriors, and folks picking a glove back up after 20 years all share the field.
No team required. Sign up as an individual and get placed, or bring a whole roster.

What does it cost?

There are two ways to get on the field, depending on how much you want to play.

Paid per game, only on the days you actually play.
No season commitment — jump in whenever a team needs a player.

What a season looks like

One flat fee for the whole season (2027 pricing to be announced).
Reserves your spot on a team’s roster all summer.
Required for national tournaments: under MSBL/MABL rules, only fully rostered season players are eligible to play in the national and regional tournaments.

What equipment do I need?

To get on the field, all you really need is a glove — teammates can usually lend a bat or helmet for your first game or two. Beyond that, here’s the full kit we recommend once you’re playing regularly:

A baseball glove
Cleats
Baseball pants
A batting helmet
A wood bat

Bring water, and you’re set.

Where and when are games played?

Home base is Memorial Field in Whitefish, Montana, and most games run on weekends through the summer — roughly mid-May into August, with playoffs in August. It’s genuine baseball: nine innings, two umpires, wood bats. As the league grows, we’re adding more fields, days, and start times across the Flathead Valley — so check the live schedule for the current dates, times, and locations.
